A highly popular lean-to shelter.
Poles not included: you can use hiking poles, or pieces of wood, or purchase the Halti pole set.
The Halti Laavu has been in production for more than 20 years, with small tweaks done here and there. If you use pieces of wood found from nature or rig the corners up with cord, or use hiking poles you’d be using anyway, the weight per person is very low.
The design of this traditional laavu is airy and spacious. Originally meant for use next to an open fire, this modern version also works without one, as the front has a bugnet - a big role for the fire was keeping bugs at bay.
The laavu is made for sheltered woodlands. For windy regions like the Nordic fjellcountry up North, or the windy archipelago area, you’ll want a different shelter.
