Choose According to Purpose
Which Material Should I Choose?
Regular aluminum transfers heat very efficiently, is lightweight, and affordable. Hard anodizing on the surface of aluminum prevents it from leaching into even acidic sauces. Non-stick surfaces make washing easier and prevent food from sticking – but be careful not to overheat non-stick coatings. Stainless steel, a familiar choice from professional kitchens, withstands high heat and creates a searing surface at lower temperatures than many other materials. Carbon steel and cast iron are also favored by passionate cooks. Like stainless steel, these materials can withstand high heat, tougher cleaning methods, and even metal utensils.
Trusted Brands
Trangia is a living legend, and Primus is an even older Nordic brand that has served Arctic explorers and hikers. MSR and Sea to Summit have cleverly designed cookware, and Muurikka is at home both on stoves and over open flames.
