As is typical for Supernatural, the 3D Signature Crew works as it is, over a base layer, under a jacket, etc. The material combines the best aspects of merino wool and synthetic fiber: wool resists the formation of odors, evens out temperature fluctuations and warms even when wet, while synthetic fiber increases the durability of the garment and speeds up drying.
