The active ingredient in the InsectSafe treatment is IR3535, which has been used in repellent sprays for over 30 years. It provides long-lasting protection against ticks and insects—even 80 washes won’t remove the substance from the clothing. The ingredient does not kill insects but makes the fabric an unpleasant environment for them. An insect that lands on the fabric typically stays for a moment and then leaves. IR3535 is also safe for use by small children and pregnant women. The substance is approved by the WHO, as well as the U.S. EPA and CDC.
