Membrane technology has come a long way since the old days. The Phantom Pull-On pants are astonishingly lightweight, yet they still boast 20,000 mm waterproofness and 20,000 g/m²/24h breathability. They pack down extremely small.

The Phantom is the right choice as a rain layer for ultralight backpackers, general-purpose pants for autumn hikes, or even as rain pants for runners.

For anyone interested: Compared to the first version, this model is five (yes, five) grams heavier: the fabric now weighs 51 grams per square meter, making it just slightly more durable than the original 40-gram version. These pants still aren’t suited for bushwhacking, but the small increase is a step toward better abrasion resistance.
