MSR Whisperlite International Stove

Reliable performance year-round. The Whisperlite boils water quickly whether it’s the heat of summer or record-breaking winter cold. This International model works with white gas, gasoline and kerosene. As the name implies, the Whisperlite is quiet for a multi fuel stove: it hisses but doesn’t roar.

Liquid fuel stoves are the most popular choice for winter use: while gas canisters struggle to release fuel in freezing temperatures, white gas and kerosene work without issue, and you can pump more pressure into the bottle as it empties.

This stove is part of MSR’s “Cook” stove range, meaning that, in addition to boiling water, it is suitable for cooking due to its excellent flame control and broad flame.

Using a liquid fuel stove takes a bit of practice: once you’ve removed the cap from the fuel bottle and attached the pump, and connected the stove’s fuel line to the pump, it’s time to preheat. Pump pressure into the bottle, release fuel into the burner for a couple of seconds, and light it. After the small pool of fuel burns for a moment, you’ll hear a slight hissing sound — this means preheating is complete and you can slowly open the valve. Then you’re ready to cook!
