5 Summer Outdoor Tips!

By June, the weather in southern Finland starts to stay warm around the clock. While night frosts are still possible, they are short-lived. Summer is a great time to try out new hiking styles and gear, without the challenge of cold weather tipping the scales.

Here are five tips to make the most of your summer – and add more adventure to your life.

1. Sleep a Night Outdoors and Embrace the Summer

Have you already tried sleeping outdoors? There’s no better way to truly immerse yourself in nature than spending a night outside. The easiest way to start is by getting your own tent. You can check out our tent buying tips [here].

If you’re already used to camping in a tent, why not try something new, like sleeping in a hammock? The boldest adventurers can even sleep under the open sky – if you find a mosquito-free spot, like a breezy seashore. You can also use a tarp and a mosquito net to stay protected from rain and bugs.

2. Go on a Bikepacking Trip

Cycling lets you enjoy summer starting right from your doorstep. You don’t need to overcomplicate things. Even a weekday evening can turn into an adventure – go for an overnight ride and pedal straight from the woods to work in the morning.

Any functioning bike will do, and a backpack is all you need. For added comfort, use bike bags. For longer trips, be sure to bring a spare inner tube, tire tools, and a pump.

3. Get in Summer Shape with Trail Running

Trail running is an awesome way to get fit while enjoying nature. Almost everyone has a nearby forest they can run in, right from home. If your local trails start to feel too familiar, explore hiking areas and national parks for a change of scenery.

4. Try a New Adventure Sport, Like Paddling or Climbing

Starting a new hobby always brings fresh energy and keeps your mind curious. It’s always easiest and safest to begin a new activity with a basic course. A course will teach you the essentials and the necessary safety practices.

5. Pause and Take It Easy

You don’t always have to be in high gear. Nature offers a wonderful setting for relaxation too. Even a short time in the outdoors is proven to reduce stress. What could be better than heading out to enjoy a sunset, listen to the waves lapping, and hear the birds sing?
