Popular Kowa binoculars and a lightweight spotting scope with tripod.
The high-quality lenses and prisms of the BDII-XD binoculars, along with ED technology (Extra-low Dispersion), provide an exceptionally sharp image and excellent color reproduction. When you need to distinguish the shade of a bird’s wing coverts while the bird is sitting in the shadow of a branch, your chances are clearly better with these binoculars compared to cheaper models.
With an 8-fold magnification, this model is easy to keep stable. The 32-millimeter objective lenses make the BDII-XD 8x32 WA model compact and lightweight, and this model is a great choice when you primarily use binoculars in good lighting conditions.
One problem with low-cost binoculars is the narrowness of the perspective: it feels like you’re peeking through a keyhole. The Kowa BDII-XD is top class in terms of field of view and sharpness in its pricegroup. This allows the binoculars to find subjects faster and more securely. A welcome feature, especially when used with glasses!

Like the binoculars in the Outdoor series, this telescope packs in some nice performance at a reasonable price point. A great choice when you want to explore wildlife observation as a hobby! Thanks to the 60 mm ocular size, this scope is compact and light relative to its capabilities. Compared to larger and more expensive telescopes, the magnification factor is moderate—still, even the lowest setting is about twice that of the most common binoculars.
Product dimensions and weight apply to the telescope itself, not the included tripod.
Tip: Especially in dim conditions, I pays off to test which magnification setting gives the best image. The pupil size of the scope changes along with the magnification, and the best performance in dim conditions is achieved with the smallest magnification.
The waterproof structure is useful even if you don’t intend to use the scope in rain: the structure also keeps dust out, and the lenses won’t fog from the inside.
