The darkest level of these lenses, Cat 4, is sufficient even for extreme conditions where snow or water reflects sunlight from every direction. Cat 4 is so dark, however, that these glasses cannot be recommended for road use, for example. Likewise, the removable side shields would be problematic in traffic.

At their lightest, the Reactiv High Contrast lenses are almost clear—the light transmission at the brightest setting is comparable to that of the darkest legally permitted car windshield. The brightest level is shown in the first additional image.
