As is typical for shoes in this class, the midsole of the Hoka Mafate series X boasts two different cushioning foams. The upper layer is made of PEBA foam, and the lower layer is “supercritical” EVA. The balanced MetaRocker design creates a smooth, rolling stride.
Crowning the midsole structure is a carbon fiber plate that stores energy during landing and releases it during toe-off.
The Mafate X is an excellent choice for long efforts in uneven terrain. The outsole uses two different rubber compounds, combining strong grip with durability in high-wear areas.
The heel-focused Active Foot Frame construction provides proper support: the foot is not just sitting on top of a foam layer, but the midsole rises up along the sides to cradle the foot.
