Haglöfs Mossen 55

The capacity of the Haglöfs Mossen 55 is big enough for a weekend trip or even a week-long trek, depending on your gear and the weather: affordable beginner gear, and cold weather gear takes a lot of room, but ultralight gear for summer is a different deal.

The fabrics have been chosen with durability first: 450 denier ripstop polyester and 600 denier polyester hold up to use better than the materials in ultralight packs. The Mossen is for the hiker looking for a pack that lasts, where every last gram isn’t the top priority. The use of stretch materials has been kept to a minimum: they have a shorter lifespan and are problematic as waste. The details have also been designed with easy repairability in mind.

• Tent poles, for example, also get support from the side pockets — use the upper compression straps to keep the poles in check
