Pitch your hammock for a break, or use it as your main shelter!
Hammocks have become increasingly popular in recent years. They are great for both travel and cabin use, and a model equipped with a mosquito net serves as a lightweight shelter for hikers. A compact hammock is also easy to carry on trips.
A relaxed position ensures a good night’s sleep
It’s best to sleep slightly diagonally in a hammock – this way, even a banana-shaped hammock provides a relatively flat sleeping surface.
Sleeping pad or underquilt?
In cool and cold conditions, you will also need a sleeping pad or an underquilt to prevent the cold from seeping in from below. Both have their advantages: a sleeping pad is more versatile, while an underquilt requires little adjustment during the night. Slippery fabrics on both the hammock and the sleeping pad can sometimes make positioning the pad tricky.
What is a tree hugger?
Hammock suspension straps come in many varieties. Wide models are often called tree huggers because they distribute your weight over a larger area, reducing the risk of damaging the tree’s bark. Another popular accessory is the so-called whoopie slings, which offer excellent adjustability and have proven to be very effective in practice.
