Gas Cartridges
Nearly all hiking gas stoves use gas cartridges with standard threads (EN 417). These lightweight and convenient cartridges are equipped with a valve, making them easy to detach from the stove—unlike the old-style pierceable cartridges. Gas does not soot up pots and works well especially in summer and autumn conditions. When temperatures drop significantly, gas mixtures can struggle to vaporize—many winter hikers therefore use white gas or multi-fuel stoves in cold conditions.
Alcohol (Spirit Fuel)
Fishbone stoves, designed in Finland, and Trangia’s brass burner use non-pressurized alcohol. Alcohol is the quietest and in many ways the simplest fuel option.
White Gas
Gasoline and multi-fuel stoves burn pressurized white gas stored in a metal bottle. The white gas we sell does not contain the additives found in fuel station gasoline—those additives are optimized for car engines and include substances unnecessary or even unsuitable for stove use.
We no longer accept empty gas cartridges in our stores.
