Unlike the optical sensors in watches, a heart rate belt picks up the data from the surface of your skin in much the same way as the contact elements used by hospitals and emergency care teams: they sense the electrical impulses that directly control the heart’s activity with great accuracy. When the belt is worn around your chest, contact stays good in nearly every sport. This makes the belt’s heart rate data reliable, and you don’t need the averaging that slows things down, the data becomes available quickly enough for interval training and more.
