The Meindl Bergell MFS GTX is a very traditional hiking boot: solid, supportive, and built to perform and last even in rocky and rugged terrain. In boot stiffness classification, the Bergell is rated B—sturdy and supportive enough for backpacking trips in more demanding terrain, yet still comfortable for day hikes and even everyday use such as walking the dog.
When new, the boots are at their stiffest. Over use, the leather becomes slightly more flexible, and as you move on to trails and rocks, they’ll be in their element.
Slightly more snug fit than usual. This, combined with the somewhat rigid and rugged structure, leads us to recommend choosing half a size larger than usual.
