Parkas
Parka jacket - style and functionality.
A parka is a thigh-length, hooded jacket that provides good weather protection. When either technical fiberfill or downfill is added between a waterproof outer fabric and a comfortable lining fabric, the result is a warm winter jacket that can handle both freezing temperatures and sleet. The lightest parkas are made for mid-season use and have a fabric lining instead of insulation.
Insulation fiber for warmth
The warmth of a parka equipped with technical insulation can be estimated based on the material weight of the fiber: 100g/m² is on the lighter end, over 200g/m² is already starting to be the warmest in the collection.
A parka jacket is a warm choice for everyday winter wear or even for dog sledding. It has become more common as a jacket model in recent years, and for good reason. Parkas usually use very durable outer fabrics, unlike down jackets that pack down small. There are also plenty of pockets.

Usage tip: Parkas almost always have a zipper that opens from both ends. It is a good idea to open the chain at the hem before you sit down on a train, car or cafe - this will protect the zipper from lateral forces.
