A map printed on waterproof Tyvek material, along with a handy guidebook.
All text in the book is in Finnish.
Tyvek withstands countless folds and heavy wear. And because the printing technique is fully waterproof, a Tyvek map means you don’t necessarily need a separate map case.
The guidebook introduces the most interesting spots in the area. All text in the book is in Finnish.
Located on the edge of Urho Kekkonen National Park, Kiilopää is a hiker’s dream. It’s surrounded by a unique network of marked trails and wilderness paths. This guide leads you along these paths into the fell landscape on day trips and longer hikes throughout the year.
The routes are the thread running through the book. Jouni Laaksonen, a respected wilderness expert, works through his recommended day trips, hiking routes, ski trips and ski treks in order. Laaksonen describes the fine routes on offer for the day-tripper staying at Kiilopää, and where to head from Kiilopää for a week-long trek. The book also covers the area’s history and nature, along with the sights and historical points of interest found along the routes. Plenty of tips help you avoid hazards and enjoy the stunning Lapland scenery.
On the accompanying map, the routes are conveniently shown in their own distinct colours. This makes it easy to see the loop each circular route forms. The front side has a 1:50,000 map that reaches far beyond Sokosti. It marks the recommended treks as well as the Sompio day-trip routes. The back side features a more detailed (1:25,000) map of the area around Kiilopää, showing the day trips and ski trips. Along the side of the map is a list of the area’s wilderness huts with their basic details and coordinates.
Just in case you somehow missed it, all text in the book is in Finnish.
