Bridgedale
Bridgedale socks are made from excellent materials for active use. Bridgedale, founded in 1914, still manufactures its socks in the brand’s birthplace in Northern Ireland.
What makes Bridgedale socks so good?
Bridgedale has developed the FusionTech method, which combines natural fibres with technical fibres in a unique way. This gives the socks a balanced set of properties, from softness to durability, and from warmth to breathability. The product development team for the socks walks more than 200 kilometers every week and listens closely to feedback from sock users in their development work.
In the FusionTech method, synthetic fibre (such as cooling Coolmax or the warmer Endurofil fibre, depending on the sock) is wrapped around a merino wool yarn, after which the sock itself is knitted. Because the core is wool and not a non-stretch synthetic fibre, the core does not cut through the other materials.
How to choose socks for hiking?
Especially on hikes, it’s best to wear two pairs of socks on top of each other – this way the socks rub against each other and your skin is spared from blisters. Thin liner socks move moisture away, and thicker hiking socks add cushioning and, when needed, warmth to the combination.
